Danga.com is a group of programmers, sysadmins, and designers developing and running community-centric online services. While our company office is based in Portland, Oregon, we have employees throughout the United States.
We're responsible for the popular website LiveJournal.com which features online journalling ("blogging"), forums, social networking, and news/content aggregation for several million users.
As a part of maintaining high-traffic, dynamic websites, we've spent an inordinate amount of time working on infrastructure components to help us scale. These include our templating system, BML, our distributed caching system (memcached), a reverse proxy load balancer (perlbal), and more. We develop entirely on Open Source platforms, such as Linux, and almost all our work is released as "Open Source" or "Free Software", depending on your choice of wording (the terms are largely synonymous).
